He developed a colorful, decorative style that became fashionable for designs of ceramics and textiles, as well as decorative schemes for public buildings. He is noted for scenes of open-air social events. He was also a draftsman, print maker,  book illustrator, scenic designer, a designer of furniture, and a planner of public spaces.

This lithograph poster is from the following:
‘Les Affiches Originales des Maitres de l’Ecole de Paris, 1959’ The title translates as: ‘Original posters: of the masters of the school of Paris’.

The Complete Original Posters of Pablo Picasso, Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy, Fernand Léger, Georges Braque, Marc Chagall and Joan Miró.

Original book 249 pp. This book was created to commemorate twenty five years of posters printed by Mourlot. This followed an exhibition took place at the Galerie Kleber from May 1952 until January 1953.
Fernand Mourlot was the great Parisian printer of lithographs, working closely with the artists of the era. including Braque, Chagall, Dufy, Léger, Matisse, Miró, and Picasso. He produced this lithograph with painstaking care, using the same lithographic technique as was used to create the original. Mourlot notes that “This composition is one of the early, very successful examples of abstract art published for a wide public.”
These lithographs are miniature versions of some of the finest lithographed posters of the mid-20th century. They are the most coveted of the miniature posters that exist today due to the lithographic processes used to create them and the artists of the Mourlot studio who produced them.

********************************

An original fine art lithograph is not just a cheap mass produced print. The process is far more complicated and therefore valuable and collectible. In short, Lithography is a method of printing using a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a completely smooth surface to which the design & ink is applied. A limited edition lithograph is an original graphic created by the artist in a small print edition or run. The process of printmaking requires a balance of creativity and skill using traditional techniques. It’s the amount of impressions 'pulled' from each 'plate' or stone that gives each print its scarcity. Because of the unique history of each item, collectible prints often appreciate in value over time due to their rarity and age. This makes them an excellent investment!

Please note that the photos do not do the Artwork justice, as it much nicer in real life! Please do not hesitate to mail me for more photos or descriptions as required. Also note that these Prints are Vintage and so they are not brand new.
By their nature there may be signs of handling or in some cases slight foxing.
