Born in France in 1869, Henri Matisse is a giant of modern art. With a career spanning over half a century, his style evolved from paintings influenced by Impressionism, to boldly coloured works in the Fauvist style and eventually to his unique paper cut-outs, which are considered some of the most iconic works of the last century.

Henri Matisse, Picasso and Marcel Duchamp are regarded as the three artists who most defined the revolutionary developments in the arts in the opening decades of the 20th century, responsible for significant developments in painting, sculpture, printmaking and ceramics.

Derrière le Miroir is a French art magazine created in 1946 and published until 1982. Art galleries, auction houses and booksellers often refer to this art magazine simply as D.L.M. DLM.
Aimé Maeght is the founder, editor and publisher. Its original articles and illustrations (mainly original color lithographs by the gallery artists) were famous at the time.
The magazine covered only the artists exhibited by Maeght gallery either through personal or group exhibitions. Among them are (in alphabetical order) Henri-Georges Adam, Pierre Alechinsky, Bacon, Jean Bazaine, Georges Braque, Pol Bury, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Roger Chastel, Eduardo Chillida, Alberto Giacometti, Vassily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Fernand Léger, Lindner, Henri Matisse, Joan Miró, Jacques Monory, Pablo Palazuelo, Paul Rebeyrolle, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Saul Steinberg, Pierre Tal-Coat, Antoni Tapies, Raoul Ubac, Bram van Velde.

    ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPHS
An original fine art lithograph is not just a cheap mass produced print. The process is far more complicated and therefore valuable and collectible. In short, Lithography is a method of printing using a stone (lithographic limestone) or a metal plate with a completely smooth surface to which the design & ink is applied. A limited edition lithograph is an original graphic created by the artist in a small print edition or run. The process of printmaking requires a balance of creativity and skill using traditional techniques. It’s the amount of impressions 'pulled' from each 'plate' or stone that gives each print its scarcity. Because of the unique history of each item, collectible prints often appreciate in value over time due to their rarity and age. This makes them an excellent investment! All hand signed items are sold in good faith.

Please note that the photos do not do the Artwork justice, as it much nicer in real life! Please do not hesitate to mail me for more photos or descriptions as required. Also note that these Prints are Vintage and so they are not brand new.By their nature there may be signs of handling or in some cases slight foxing.
